Chilton County Parents, Students, and Staff:

As you are aware, new information about COVID-19 becomes available daily. The Chilton County School System is continuously monitoring the situation and is in contact with our state and local public health agencies, the State Department of Education, and other local experts. We met with multiple agencies on Thursday to have a plan of action if the need arises.  As Spring Break approaches, many of our staff and students will be traveling. As everyone embarks on trips, we want to remind you of effective flu and virus prevention strategies that will help keep your family healthy. If you or a family member are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms such as fever, coughing or difficulty breathing, please call your family physician for guidance.

The Chilton County School System remains committed to providing a safe, healthy learning environment for our students. Our district has adopted routine cleaning protocols to further prevent the spread of any flu or virus.  I and our Lead Nurse have contacted administrators, custodial teams, child nutrition managers, and school nurses to review best practices in the areas of cleanliness and student health.

All field trips inside or outside Alabama have been cancelled beginning March 16th to April 30th. We will re-evaluate before April 30th.We will monitor these events and adjust schedules as needed. We will continue to remind students about effective prevention methods and their role in helping keep our schools and community healthy. All school sponsored trips or extracurricular sports trips have been canceled during spring break. At this time events expected to have 500 or more people have been cancelled or rescheduled. Including Special Olympics and Law Day.  At this point all spring sports will continue as normal except spring break.

Spring Break Travel:

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is providing information about COVID-19 on their website. If you are traveling to a Level 2, 3, or 4 Country as outlined by the CDC, we respectfully request that you notify your local School Administrator. In addition, please communicate with us if you are traveling to a domestic location with a known outbreak or if you are scheduled to travel on a cruise ship.

Based on the CDC levels of concern, there may be post travel protocols that apply. If you are traveling, please visit the CDC website for continually updated information on travel risks and recommendations. We are continually monitoring new information and will update you as it becomes available. Please visit the Chilton County Schools website for updates. Thank you for helping us keep our schools and community healthy!
